Approaches and Prospects for Thin, Rear Projection TVs: A study of the technology and markets for thin rear-projection consumer televisions

Insight Media has released a new report called, "Approaches and Prospects for Thin, Rear Projection TVs: A study of the technology and markets for thin rear-projection consumer televisions."  The report finds that RPTV makers have many technology options in adopting thin (8-11 inches deep) or slim (<8" deep) RPTVs.  And, there is a price premium to adopt a thin or slim design, which increases with larger screen sizes.  However, many view the adoption of slim and thin RPTVs as a critical element in maintaining the competitiveness of the category.  This new "mini-report" from Insight Media provides focused analysis on the technology, manufacturing, costs, marketing and competitiveness issues associated with developing and selling thin and slim RPTVs.

The new report is 73 pages long and is being offered for $1,499.  "This is the first of a series of new mini-reports we plan to offer that have more focused themes and topics", said Chris Chinnock, President of Insight Media.  "The reports will be shorter and the price will be lower.  Coming soon with be reports on Direct View Field Sequential LCDs and Replacement Displays for High Quality Broadcast Monitors."

Each mini-report focuses on understanding the technology, trends, drivers, players, and prospects for the topic of interest.  Highlights of the Thin RPTV report include:

·        Information on projection lens and other optical designs needed to

      implement thin RPTV

·        Discussion of the advantages of laser illumination in thin RPTV

compared to illumination by lamps or LEDs.

·        Information on screen and Fresnel lens design changes needed to

      give acceptable image quality

·        Discussion of thin and slim RPTV sets that have been marketed

through 2007 for consumer and professional applications

·        Marketing information on the acceptance by consumers of price-

      premiums for various features

·        Estimates of the current manufacturing cost increment for light engines

designed to match various cabinet depths.

·        BOM estimates of normal, slim and thin RPTV sets using both UHP-

type lamps and lasers, with forecasts through 2011.

·        Estimated price premiums of slim and thin RPTV sets over normal

      RPTVs through 2011

The Thin RPTV report contains 60 figures and 18 tables.
