Electronic Book Reader Market Could Buck Recession and Grow Significantly

Insight Media, the leader in tracking the emerging segments of the display industry, has released a new report titled, "E-Paper Displays, Applications and the E-Book Reader Market." It covers multiple applications all e-paper type displays, with market and forecast analysis of e-book readers.

"We looked at two scenarios for the growth of electronic book readers (EBRs) going forward," noted Insight Media analyst Norbert Hildebrand.  "In the more optimistic scenario, we see 28.8 million EBRs being sold in 2013 - a very significant increase from today's levels."

The Amazon Kindle EBR has ignited interest in this product category.  With the right combination of display technology, content availability, ease-of-use and price point, the EBR market has taken off.  This has created broad interest in understanding the size and growth potential of this market, the key display technologies that will propel next generation systems, and the opportunities for companies to participate in this growing segment.  With consumer electronics in the dolldrums, any product category that is growing is of interest.

In the new report, we generate optimistic and conservative forecasts for EBRs for each of six sub-segments:

·        general purpose e-books

·        e-newspapers and e-magazines

·        e-text books

·        e-professional reference books

·        e-dictionaries, phrase books/language learning

·        e-comics

Development of the forecast was accomplished by a careful analysis of the total available market, the relation of EBR penetrations to other consumer products, a market needs analysis, a list of assumptions, and a proprietary "needs-expectations" analysis that identifies six EBR buying factors and rates the importance of each, along with the customer expectations to meet these needs.  Discussions with leading industry players have validated the rigor and results of this approach.

"There are many e-paper-like display technologies that can be used to create EBR and other products," noted Insight Media analyst Paul Beatty.  "This report evaluates 11 classes of e-paper-like displays, covering 27 different companies.  This will help identify the strengths, weakness and status of each approach to help better understand how these display technologies fit in the EBR market."

The report is rich with display technology analysis, display development roadmaps, EBR product analysis, as well as market and opportunity analysis.  It will be useful for a broad range of technology, component, display and product developers, as well as content creators and publishers.

The report is available immediately for $2,999.
