Insight Media Releases Report on Picoprojectors Embedded in Cameras/Camcorders

Insight Media, a leader in new technology and product category research, has released a report, the 2011 Picoprojector/Camera Report: A Market and Technology Study Covering Picoprojectors Embedded in Still and Video Cameras, which covers digital cameras and camcorders with embedded picoprojectors. Cameras with embedded picoprojectors were first introduced commercially by Nikon in 2009 and since then have been introduced by multiple additional vendors. Available cameras today include both still and video cameras.

"Consumer-grade cameras and camcorders with embedded picoprojectors offer an interesting option for consumers, namely, the instant sharing of photos and videos with a larger image than is available on the camera itself," noted lead analyst Matthew Brennesholtz. "This feature has been popular in the initial products and is expected to continue with expanded product offerings going forward. We expect significant growth in this category."

"The ability to create, deliver and share content among mobile platforms is increasing rapidly at this time," observed Insight Media president, Chris Chinnock. "The camera/camcorder platform is likely to become more integrated into this trend with an embedded picoprojector being one key element. This is also an important way for camera/camcorder makers to offer a differentiated product in a crowded field"

Part 1 of this report covers the technology, human factors and market drivers that are common for all market segments for mobile projectors with solid-state illumination. Part 2 of the report then takes a deep-dive into how this general information applies to cameras/camcorders with embedded picoprojectors. The camera-specific aspects of the market are evaluated, especially from the point of view consumer end-users and the satisfaction of these users with existing products. Part 2 of the report also provides optimistic, conservative and expected forecasts through 2016 for picoprojectors embedded into digital cameras and camcorders. These forecasts include both unit sales and revenues.

The 2011 Picoprojector/Camera Report is the second in Insight Media's series on this technology. The 2011 Picoprojector Smartphone Report was released earlier in the month and additional reports will follow.
