Early bird registration fee for the 3D Workshop ends Monday, November 6th

The $300.00 early bird registration fee for the 3D Workshop ends Monday, November 6th. The registration fee increases to $400.00 on November 7th. The 3D Workshop, presented by the US Display Consortium and Insight Media, will bring together the industry leaders and will focus on the exciting technology and applications for three-dimensional (3D) displays. The workshop has been designed to share some of the initial results from Insight Media analysts from the 3D industry report, scheduled for publication in January 2007. An exchange with industry professionals will help shape the final results and focus of the report to best serve the 3D community. Hands on appreciation for the excitement and scope of the industry will be available for attendees via a small 'demo' area.

"This is an excellent way to understand the key aspects of the 3D market in a one-day workshop," noted Insight Media President, Chris Chinnock. "Anyone with even a passing interest in 3D will be able to gain a good understanding of the forces shaping the industry, the status and opportunities for 3D and the timing for penetration of 3D systems. The workshop is an efficient way to gain this knowledge."

Exhibitor highlights . . .

3ality (http://www.3ality.com/) will showcase its full-time, full-resolution autostereoscopic flat panel display. The display is neither spatially nor temporally multiplexed. Each eye sees the entire screen at all times - no eyewear is required. You just see rock-solid 3D at the full native resolution of the display for each eye.

DDD (http://www.ddd.com/) will be exhibiting a range of mass-market 3D content and display solutions for PC, mobile telephones and television. The solutions, marketed under DDD's TriDef® 3D brand include:

  • Sharp Corporation's AL3D "glasses-free" 3D notebook PC that includes DDD's TriDef DVD Player that converts conventional 2D DVD content to 3D automatically.
  • A Cingular 2125 (HTC Faraday) mobile telephone handset equipped with an Ocuity 2.2" "glasses-free" 3D display and DDD Mobile. DDD Mobile is DDD's comprehensive mobile phone content solution that has recently been licensed to one of the world's top five mobile handset manufacturers. DDD Mobile performs real time conversion of photos and videos on the handset and also supports the download of premium 3D mobile content.
  • DDD's TriDef Vision+ set top box together with an LCD TV equipped with Arisawa Manufacturing's Micropol polarizing material. Vision+ converts conventional video signals from DVD players, cable, satellite and games consoles to 3D automatically and is a key component of the TriDef 3D TV solution being marketed to leading consumer electronics companies by DDD and Arisawa. Arisawa's polarizing materials form the basis for today's 3D Digital Cinema solution that is marketed by RealD.

eMagin (http://www.emagin.com) will be exhibiting its Z800 3Dvisor - a big screen 3D you can hold in your hand. The Z800 delivers a clear, high-contrast virtual image equivalent to a 105-inch screen viewed at twelve feet, in full-color 3D stereovision. It also delivers stunning 2D images if the source is 2D. The Z800's high-speed 360-degree headtracking lets users look around in the virtual world just as they would in the real world. Completing the near-immersive experience is an integrated, audio system with stereo earbuds and a noise-canceling microphone. T he Z800 requires only a standard USB port and can greatly extend a laptop's battery life when it's used instead of the standard LCD laptop screen.

Royal Philips Electronics (http://www.philips.com/ ) will showcase its latest commercially available 3D displays and content creation products. 3D Workshop attendees will enjoy a demo of this innovative 3D experience using a selection of animation, games, stereoscopic video and 2D to 3D converted video content. The award-winning Philips 3D displays using WOWvx technology takes the immersive experience one step further, delivering stunning out-of-screen 3D effects without the need for special glasses or filters. Today Philips 3D displays are sold in the professional market, with such applications as out-of-home advertising and digital signage. 3D-TV for the consumer market will follow, promising the next trend in an immersive experience for gaming and home theater.
