TOPIC

SPEAKER

ABSTRACT

The Global Picture - is China Really so Different?

Ben Leet, Sr. Analyst

Decision Tree Consulting

The presentation will evaluate how demand trends and end-user needs will drive sales of professional and consumer displays, how the likely over supply of flat panels in 2007 will affect demand and how this will affect consumer behavior in the US, Europe and China. In addition, the potential future impact of content management, digital convergence and IPTV will be explored, from the perspectives of both the TV and professional displays markets.

The Supply Side Picture of Flat Panel Displays and its Impact on China

Kenny Kim, V.P.

DisplayBank

Trends in LCDs and PDPs including pricing, production, capacity, profitability, etc.  What will this mean to Chinese TV, supply chain and channel partners?

The Personal Display Revolution

Ian Underwood, CTO

MicroEmissive Displays

Most of the display industry is focused on expanding to larger and higher definition displays or finding ways to squeeze enough information onto the small displays of pocketable products.  But there is an alternative solution - Personal Display Systems.  Such systems use video glasses to achieve a large image in a compact, lightweight form-factor.  The presentation will discuss the technical and commercial factors associated with PDSs and the market and business conditions that are now finally ripe for widespread commercial adoption.

New Technologies and Market Opportunities

for Front Projection Products

Hideaki Iwano, Chief Executive, TFT Division

Seiko Epson/3LCD

Conquering the Next Wave of HDTV Image Processing Challlenges

Paul Russo, CEO

Silicon Optix

Presentation will focus on current image processing problems such as brightness non-uniformities in direct-view LCD TVs, color non-uniformities in 3-panel LCD and LCOS RPTVs, lateral chromatic aberration in all projection-based displays, misconvergence and misalignment in 3-panel projection systems, etc.

Decommodify or Die:

Using Electronics to Differentiate Display Systems

Jun Fang, Sr. Product Marketing Manager

Pixelworks

Some TV and projector makers view the image processing electronics as commodity items, but in reality, it is often the quality of the electronics that determine the overall image quality, especially for non-HD source material. This presentation will explore the latest generation of display electronics and how they can implement new features, optimize performance for the latest display technologies and sources, and even reduce BOM costs allowing a way to differentiate a display.

Re-introducing Innovation to LCD Backlight Design

Matt Eagar, V.P.

Business Development  Asia Pacific

Fusion Optix

Relentless price reduction pressure is taking its toll on the LCD supply chain and finished product makers, but innovation is not dead.  In fact, it can re-invigorate the space allowing for unique products that escape commodity status.  The presentation will examine trends in LCD backlight materials costs, and introduce some novel technologies and designs that can meet today's pricing pressures while allowing designers new design freedom.

Trends in High Brightness LEDs for Projection and LCD Backlights

Christian Hoepfner,

V.P., Products

Luminus Devices

High-brightness LEDs for rear-projection TVs are attracting much attention as Samsung leads the way with new products.  LEDs are also moving into LCD backlights.  Both of these applications are being enabled by Luminus - PhlatLight (Photonic Lattice Light) technology.  This presentation will discuss some of the market needs and how LEDs and PhlatLight technology can offer compelling solutions.

Front Projector - Business & Commercial Applications

Ney Corsino,

Vice President Marketing Philips Lighting

DLP Roadmap and Impact on China

Eric Braddom, Business Director

Texas Instruments

Opportunities for

Laser-Based Displays

Chris Chinnock,

President

Insight Media

Red, green and blues lasers can be used in projection systems as small as a mobile handset to as large as a cinema theater, effectively replacing arc lamps as the light source.  They can also be used to replace CCFLs in LCD backlights.  This presentation will describe the wide variety of products that can be created with lasers, the advantages these light sources offer and the status of industry development.

OCB LCD: The Path to Blur Free Video

Bruce Kuhlmann,

Sr. Partner

McLaughlin Consulting Group

LCD TV and high-end monitors that use motion picture, high speed sports action, and gaming tend to blur compared with some of the other display technologies such as a CRT. Optical Compensation Bend (OCB) LCD is demonstrating Motion Picture Response Time (MPRT) similar to that of a CRT. The OCB family of LCD's have been known for their fast switching speeds.  This presentation will discuss the various display types like LCD-VA, LCD-IPS, LCD-OCB, CRT and PDP relative to MPRT.

Display Summit - China will be held at the Beijing Debao Hotel. DSC will be held in conjunction with Integrated Systems China 2007 (April 25 -27), which will be held in the Beijing Exhibition Center, directly across the street from the Beijing Debao Hotel.

Display Summit - China will feature high-level presentations from renowned speakers. They will cover manufacturing and market developments in China as well as display technology and market issues in other international regions. LCD, PDP, microdisplay projection, electronics and consumer and professional markets will be addressed. Attendees will learn what trends and factors will shape the growth of the global display industry going forward and speakers will seek to identify how to navigate these fast-changing conditions.

DSC will be patterned after the popular and long-running US-based Projection Summit Conference series (www.projectionsummit.com), which is held each year in partnership with Infocomm. The event will be co-hosted by McLaughlin Consulting Group (MCG) (www.mcgweb.com) and Insight Media (IM) (www.insightmedia.info), leading strategic business and market services companies within the display industry.
