Insight Media Launches Display Watch - A New View of the Global Display Industry

Insight Media is launching Display Watch, our newest monthly, electronically delivered newsletter. And the title almost describes the essential services we provide…but some additional explanation might be useful.

All day, every day, our analysts watch the global display industry for you. We think about what we see, we query our industry sources, we discuss developing events with each other and with industry experts around the world. Then, in our monthly report of this continual activity, we provide you with executive-level summations and analyses of the month’s important events and trends in technology, infrastructure, applications, markets, and retailing.

We know we’re good – our consulting clients tell us so – but we don’t believe we’re the source of all wisdom concerning the industry. So, Display Watch will also include by-lined articles and opinion pieces from leading technology, marketing, and corporate executives, as well as company profiles and executive interviews.

What am I talking about? Here are some examples from this issue:

  • What were our take way impressions from CEDIA? – read about it in our CEDIA report
  • In the Market Watch section, analyst Steve Marsland has written a classic piece describing the DTV industry as a river with the industry falling off a waterfall into a whirlpool. You won’t want to miss this insightful story.
  • Projector Watch offers several insights into new market opportunities. One is a category that Chris Chinnock calls “Digital Teens.” We think this group may gobble up 2M low cost projectors by 2009. Read why. Analyst Steve Sechrist also muses about the next big screen opportunity in the install space – 100-inch in-wall display systems.
  • Financial industry analyst Derrick Irwin weighs in with two contributed pieces this month. In one, he explores the prospects for DVB-H vs. MediaFLO as the next standard to drive mobile video – a category we are believers in. He also looks at the effect of new BEF supplier Mitsubishi Rayon and it effect on 3M’s LCD business. Good stuff.
  • Retail specialist Tom Edwards offers up an article this month that takes a look at the power of branding in today’s DTV industry, drawing from historical perspective to offer insight into how branding might play out in the battle to define the next winners and losers.
  • Analyst Ken Tompkins takes a look at the challenge TI and customer face in trying to offer both wobulation and non-wobulation 1080p chip sets in the market.
  • Steve Sechrist has a good “think piece” on the potential for IPTV and how this might shake up the status quo big time.
  • Another piece looks at the effect of single scan technology to make PDPs most cost competitive
  • Plus more on the LCD industry, BenQ, InFocus, Coretronic and Panasonic

Display Watch represents a “new view” for Insight Media, as well as our subscribers. In our other respected and influential newsletters – Projection Monthly, Microdisplay Report, and MDTV Retailer – the emphasis is on breaking news and analysis. In Display Watch, we are taking a balanced view of all the established and important emerging display technologies, and step back to produce thoughtful analysis and perspective to help you make better business and technology decisions today.

We’re so sure you will like what you see in Display Watch that we’re distributing this inaugural issue free to qualified individuals. After that, we’ll ask you to pay for it. We’re confident you’ll appreciate the intelligence, the experience, the deep industry knowledge, and the hundreds of analyst-hours that go into every issue. And we know you’ll like the practical, information-for-decision-making orientation.

We intend to be one of your essential resources. Please – let us know how we can serve you better.
