Samsung Pocket Projector Manufacturing and Performance Report Released

Pocket projectors - small-size projectors powered by LED illumination sources, are an emerging part of the projection industry. A new report offered by Insight Media called, "LED Pocket Projector Super Report: A Manufacturing & Performance Analysis on the Samsung SP-P300ME Pocket Projector," provides a level of detail on this class of projector that has never been available before.

This report breaks new ground in the detailed analysis of one product within this emerging class of projectors. Pocket projectors hold great sales promise as they can be used for professional as well as consumer use. But they have low light output and fairly high prices right now. This two-part report provides a very detailed look at the current performance of this state-of-the-art Samsung product as well as the costs associated with its manufacturing.

There are two parts to the report: A full manufacturing cost analysis and an optical system analysis. The manufacturing cost provides detailed cost estimates for contract manufacturing of the Samsung pocket projector, which is extremely useful data for doing competitive analysis, supply chain negotiations and other manufacturing due diligence. The optical system analysis provides insight into the performance and design trade-off of the pocket projector - again, very useful for better understanding the current state of the art.

The destructive cost breakdown analysis was done by Cypress Labs. The analysis consists of two excel spreadsheets, each with multiple tabs of information. The tabs include cost analysis as follows:

  • Executive Summary
  • Cost Summary
  • Labor Summary
  • Report Methodology
  • Packaging
  • Covers
  • Mechanical
  • Optics
  • Electronics
  • Final Preparation

The second spreadsheet contains photographs of the various components and subsystems of the projector:

  • Covers
  • Mechanical
  • Optics
  • Electronics

The key elements of the optical analysis, which was performed by Optical Short Courses International, include:

  • Optical System Analysis
  • Light engine Configuration
  • First Order Optical System Layout
  • Illumination System Analysis
  • Imaging System Analysis
  • Optical Component Discussion
  • Subsystem Component Discussion
  • Unique Design Features
  • Light Source Analysis and Discussion
  • Throughput Analysis
  • Color Analysis

The report also includes about 130 high-resolution photographs along with many graphs and diagrams.

The LED Pocket Projector Super Report: A Manufacturing & Performance Analysis on the Samsung SP-P300ME Pocket Projector is available now for $4,995. An optional $500 Zemax optical design file is also available.
