The Need:

Rear projection TV (RPTV) is facing serious competition in the market place from thin displays, currently including LCD-TV and plasma. Additional flat technologies may enter the market in the near future, including OLED, SED and FED. These thin displays, especially in larger sizes, command a significant price-premium over RPTV. Even in today's price-sensitive consumer market, the consumer seems to be willing to pay this significant price-premium for a thin TV. It is expected that unless the RPTV manufacturers make an effort to introduce thinner sets that are closer to the form factor of LCD and Plasma, their market share will continue to erode.

Report Objective:

The objective of this report is to supply technologists, managers, product planners, engineers, researchers, analysts, retailers, buyers, supply chain suppliers and marketing personnel with the information needed to evaluate thin RPTV technology in competition with LCD and plasma displays. The required information needed to make decisions on the future prospects of RPTV includes information on thin RPTV technology, manufacturing cost information and marketing issues. This report contains information on designs of both the light engine and the projection screen, BOM and other cost estimates for thin and slim RPTV vs. normal-depth RPTV and data on the consumer acceptance of the inevitable premium of thin RPTV over normal-depth systems.

Highlights:

The Thin RPTV report contains 62 figures and 18 tables.
